Soccer and web marketing

Well, we are about to start the football season again. I read in the newspaper and in some magazines about recruitment and outrageous salaries for players and coaches. Everything is high standing and watching some guys is quite fun. It seems that most of the famous guys are really offended if they don't get paid big for the work they do.

I relate this to site marketing in a unique way. Football players get paid for their performance. As long as they work, they will remain under contract. Being on the payroll is a good thing, and every once in a while, if they've had an outstanding season, they ask for a raise.

Website marketing can be viewed in the same way. You, the site owner, are the coach and it's up to you to find the players who will play for your team. There are many players to choose from. Some players have natural enemies in the form of competition.

Some players are sitting on the bench and some are overpaid and underperforming. Have you ever been through an AdWords campaign and it didn't really work? This is the player who should be sent off. Refurbishing or rehabilitating them doesn't do much either. You have to start over.

Start thinking of your article writers as team members. Are they in shape? Do they exercise? Do they follow instructions and plays? Do they follow your example and give you what you want? Link builders can also be team members. In fact, anyone you assign has this performance responsibility. You better get used to the idea that not all of your players will stay. Some must be deposited immediately and others will move to the initial list.

Don't be discouraged if your draft star pick turns out to be a failure or worse, you get hurt. Finding the right people doesn't usually come from just one company. You have to look for it around you. You'll find some by word of mouth, some on Elance,

some from a website you've heard of, and some from people you coach yourself. The best equipment is chosen and prepared by hand. Incentives always seem to work well for performance-based players. Don't be afraid to give the stars the actual interview and sprinkle their names on, they love it.

So how do you get started? Well, outsourcing is always a good idea, so copy what others are doing. You are in a competition, right? Do what works. See everywhere. If you are trying to rank well on Google, make Google work for you.

Look in the classifieds and forums where these people hang out. Think of it as keyword research. You won't do a bad job with something so important. Keep a file and a list so you can organize yourself. Soon you will have the equipment you have always wanted, and the cost of acquiring it will not matter much.
